I Bought A Canvas Printing Business
Launching a new business has always been my plan, launching a range of online ecommerce brands has been my dream ever since I started out in the digital marketing world.
I’ve been a part of many online businesses, some from scratch, some well established but either way, I’ve been a key part of the growth and success of a wide range of businesses, I always wanted it for myself.
I never really set out to buy a business, let alone a canvas printing business but maybe this is just one of things where you think ‘everything happens for a reason’
The way this came around was actually quite scary, I made the decision in autumn 2023 to shut down my mini digital marketing agency Digi Malga, I then stacked a few grand together and made plans to start my first ecommerce brand.
Whilst this planning was all going on, the last remaining digital marketing client I kept told me about their canvas printing business, this was a venture the client was successful in and fundamentally used the funds from the success of it to start the business I now run all the paid ads for, now that business has got to big numbers, the canvas printing business got sidelined.
I was aware it got sidelined but was only aware it got passed to a friend to run, I never gave it another thought until one day It came up in conversion that the friend hadn’t pursued the business and now the equipment was up for sale, my ears pricked up straight away, I was already in the process of planning ecommerce brands…. could this be one of them?
The solution to my problem
Despite what you may hear from the course sellers online, you can’t start an ecommerce business with no capital.
You need money for the website, for the product, for branding and most of all, for the ads needed to get your website out there.
I stacked around £5,000 together, my goal was to start small and grow, I have my digital marketing client who’s invoice covers my bills, now all I need to do is snowball an ecommerce business, build a website, brand it, whack a product or product range on it and market said product/s.
£5,000 wasn’t really enough to do it at a decent speed, BUT, it could be if £5,000 gave me a large range of products, that’s exactly what I saw canvas printing as, I own the printer now, I have all the gear, I’ve enough funds to get a website together and some canvas designs out there, the money made from selling them covers the cost of more, paper, ink, packaging and most of all, paid ads.
So although running a canvas printing business was never part of the plan, It looks like it could be a viable way to stack the bank with funds in order to then go off and get my own range of products manufactured, branded and give me the resources to launch more ecommerce brands.
There’s only one way to find out…. learn everything about the print business you can and give it a bloody good go!
